Young books and peer pressure

by onelittlelie @ 2007-12-21 - 05:13:28 pm

I ordered the Mates Dates book series by cathy Hopkins, there age range is 12 and up and i'm (almost) 17. The girls in the book are 14 so its not that bad and i like reading books like this where is all teenage drama. The ones with younger characters are usually more funnier and easier to get to grips with.

The book club i'm apart of, some of the members where saying that the books whouldn't expand my range and where a bit young but i see that the whole point of reading is to enjoy the book.

And i read books for women and older teenagers all the time. I just wanted a change to relax with. One of the members of the book club puts alot of pressure on me to read at a higher level. She read war and peace when she was 9 i believe. But i like reading to get lost in the story, not to "expand my range".

I agree with you, the point of reading is to enjoy the book. Reading is a fun way to pass the time. Don't let other people dictate you what to read.
Books aren't age-related perse, so read what you want and have fun with it!

Well yes... I agree... but don't let peer pressure for 'big books' put you off. I've not read War and Peace, and I have no desire to. But there are great books that you should read that aren't 1000 pages long. So... try Catcher in the Rye... or the Virgin Suicides... or Breakfast at Tiffany's. So many short books that will make you think.
